Rosa’s Thai Cafe - Spitalfields (via Deliveroo)

I had been craving Thai food for quite some time, but didn’t really feel like venturing far from my sofa on a rather grey London evening, so I decided to give Rosa’s Thai Cafe a go via Deliveroo. My husband and I have been to Thailand on numerous occasions and absolutely adore the Thai food that we continually stuff in our mouths while there. Honestly, a trip to Thailand wouldn’t be the same if we weren’t able to traipse from food stall to food stall, market to market and restaurant to restaurant.

Therefore, I did do some research before deciding that Rosa’s Thai Cafe menu seemed to be the one to beat in London, and I promise you, I was not disappointed. Often, even in Thailand, we have been frustrated by the lack of spice in the Thai dishes we have received, but this was certainly not the case on this occasion. I would even go so far as to say that what we were given from Rosa’s far surpassed some of the food we have been served in Thailand.

From left to right: Drunken Noodles with Mince Chicken - Thai basil, lesser galangal and fresh chillies; Panang Curry Chicken - baby aubergine, red and green chillies and kaffir lime leaves; Rosa’s Chicken Green Curry - aubergine, bamboo shoots and sweet basil. Plus two Steamed Jasmine Rice.

We ordered three main dishes and, by far, the spiciest was the Chicken Green Curry. This also happened to be my favourite. Like I said, a lack of spice can be severely upsetting, especially for a spice fiend like me. As soon as I tried a spoonful of that unctuous green sauce, I knew I was in for a good night of food. The chicken in all of the dishes was top quality, and it remained tender and juicy from swimming in the flavourful green curry. Sometimes I find Thai basil to be quite bitter, so I was very happy to see that this curry used sweet basil, and it perfectly complemented the rest of the ingredients, especially the bamboo shoots. I would choose this dish time and time again.

Next up was the Panang Curry Chicken. I regularly opt for this dish when in Thailand, and I’m glad I opted for it this time as well. While not as spicy as the green curry, it still packed a powerful punch of amazing flavour that lingered in my mouth long after I had finished. Once again, the chicken soaked up all of the sauce beautifully and the baby aubergine were a nice veggie addition. You could also really taste the coconut milk in this one, giving it quite a lovely creamy texture.

Last, but certainly not least, was the Drunken Noodles with Mince Chicken dish. Now, I have had these noodles a few times while living in Singapore, but have never seen them on a menu in Thailand. However, they taste very much like the Pad See Ew that I have seen and ordered many times on Thai menus. This had a delightfully fiery kick, with the perfect noodle to mince chicken ratio. I also loved the contrast in texture of the onions and green beans. I honestly could have snacked on the noodles all evening long if my, by then full stomach, had allowed me.

Fiery Drunken Noodles

All in all, I was incredibly satisfied by this outstanding meal from Rosa’s Thai Kitchen, and I intend on dining in at one of their locations very soon to try even more of their heartwarming Thai cooking.
